The Leisure World Democratic Club monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 17th at 1:00 p.m. in Clubhouse 4 will feature a presentation on the implementation of California’s new End of Life Option Act. Club members are also invited to be a part of the Club’s “Bring Your Own Lunch Facilitated Discussions” beginning at 12:15.
The End of Life Option Act became law in California last October, leaving many people curious about the specific changes we will see in June when it becomes effective. This law, as reported recently in the Leisure World NEWS, enables physicians to write life-ending prescriptions for terminally ill, mentally capable adults. Stephanie Campbell, the Orange County Action Coordinator for Compassion and Choices, will be explaining further details concerning this new law as well as responding to questions during the Club’s May 17 meeting.
Stephanie Campbell has done extensive community work in a variety of capacities. She is a volunteer for the League of Women Voters and a founding member of the Orange County chapter of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, as well as serving as vice president of that organization’s national Board of Trustees. She is also a certified speaker for ACLU on religious, reproductive and gay rights. A naturalized US citizen, Stephanie was born in England and lived in Israel for two years prior to coming to the United States. We look forward to hearing from this talented speaker!
SBLW Democratic Club is also delighted to announce that Dr. Suzanne Savary will be the featured speaker at their July 9th Annual Dinner to be held this year in Clubhouse 2. Dr. Savary is the Democratic Party’s endorsed candidate running against Dana Rohrabacker to represent Leisure World residents in Congress. Additional information regarding the dinner, chaired by JoAnn Englund, will be available as it develops under the Annual Dinner tab on this site.
